A Good Meal Starts With the Best Meat

There is nothing worse than sitting down to a meal to have the meat be tough and/or flavorless. Seriously disappointing. Whether it’s a meal you’ve prepared at home yourself or dining out at a restaurant, when you take a bite of meat that is tasteless, dry, or tough, it is such a waste of time and money.

A Good Meal Starts With The Best Meat

Since we do a high-protein, low-carb diet, meat plays a big role in the meals I prepare. Whether it’s pork, chicken, or beef, I want the best meats to feed my family. I also want the cuts of meat I serve to be full of flavor.

The best way to get flavorful meats is with marinades. You can change up a meal and the flavor of any meat with the right kind of marinade.

For example, on Taco Tuesday, we like to use a South of the Border kind of marinade on our flank steak. Sometimes we spice it up even more with a spicier or hotter marinade, depending upon our mood.

Then there are days when just a good Italian marinade fits the bill. Sometimes flavorful doesn’t mean spicy. But I admit, we do enjoy a spicier marinade.

I try to keep certain ingredients on hand so I always have the makings for a marinade. I’d recommend keeping garlic, spices, olive oil, soy sauce, brown sugar, and vinegar. And if you use herbs, use fresh herbs when you can.

Steaks, especially ribeyes, are my family’s favorite, but any cut of meat is better once marinaded. I enjoy marinaded meats because they’re more tender, too.

In my opinion, if you eat meats without marinading them you are really missing out. And marinades don’t have to contain elaborate ingredients, just the right combination of spices, oils, etc., is all you need. Sometimes less is more.

I do think the longer you marinade your meat the better, though. I try to marinade for at least 24 hours, but if you are in a real time crunch, thirty minutes will suffice.

This is why I’m impressed with Butcher’s Mark. Their butcher shop is full of fresh, high-quality cuts of meats that are marinated in their own proprietary technique leaving every single ounce of meat full of flavor. I know, my mouth is watering too.

And that’s what you want meat to do… make your mouth water because every bite is infused with flavor.

As I mentioned above I eat a high-protein diet, I’ve tried KETO, but eating more protein and fewer carbs work better for me. Not to mention on a KETO diet, a lot of marinades would be a no-no. Since meat is high in protein and a food my husband and son both love, it’s an easy way to incorporate protein into our diet. I do try to buy more lean cuts of meat and use chicken a lot, though.

It doesn’t matter whether you are on a KETO diet, a high protein diet, or just occasionally eat meat, I think there’s one thing we can agree on… a good meal starts with the best meat.
