Dehydration isn’t something many of us think about on a daily basis. It is something I never thought much about either, but I do now.
See, I used to suffer from chronic dehydration.
When I was younger, I was very active… always on the move. I also ate a lot of carbs and drank a lot of coffee. Things that can lead to dehydration. I figured coffee is primarily water, right? Well, it is, but caffeine is dehydrating. Since I exercised a lot, which meant sweated a lot I needed to drink a lot of water.
I did drink water, but just not enough compared to how active I was, then add in the foods and coffee, I would get dehydrated. I remember feeling so thirsty and so tired. It was beyond just simply being tired… it was exhaustion. Sometimes I would get light-headed or dizzy.
Honestly, when I was younger, I never developed good habits about drinking water. This is something I have been adamant about with my son. And thankfully, he drinks plenty of water every day.
I don’t want him to get dehydrated and lead by example, now.
Since I went through early menopause I have a lot of hot flashes. The excessive sweating is something I’m aware of now that can lead to dehydration, especially if I don’t stay hydrated. Sometimes we just get busy and forget to drink.
And the thing is, by the time you are dehydrated, you need more than just water, you need electrolytes.
This is why I love Hydrant! It is grounded by science to optimize hydration and by incorporating Hydrant into my daily routine, once in the morning and before bed, I know I will have optimal hydration.
Signs of Dehydration
- Dry Mouth
- Thirst (especially excessive thirst)
- Not urinating much
- Dark yellow pee
- Muscle Cramps
- Headaches
- Dry, cold skin that doesn’t snap back quickly when pinched up (or very dry skin)
- Sleepiness, very tired, or even lethargic
- Feeling dizzy
- Rapid heartbeat
- Fainting
- Rapid breathing
- Sunken eyes
Several of the signs above are early warning signs, like dry mouth and thirst, so if you drink Hydrant at the first signs, or better yet, drink 8 ounces in the morning and 8 ounces before going to bed every day, you will stay hydrated. Still drink plenty of water or beverages throughout the day, though.
Note: Not all of the signs above indicate dehydration so if you have any concerns, definitely see your doctor.
