I am one of the biggest Diane Keaton fans… so I am excited about the Lifetime Channel’s original movie, Smother. From mylifetime.com blog,
"Smother" is the story of Marilyn Cooper (Academy Award winner Diane Keaton), one of those mothers – the kind who’ll call at 6:30 in the morning, or tell embarrassing stories about her son Noah (Dax Shepard) to complete strangers. When she suspects her husband is having an affair, she decides it’s time to “take a break,” and shows up on Noah’s doorstep with bags and five foster dogs in tow. Already having lost his job, hosting an unwelcome houseguest (Mike White) on his couch and facing pressure from his wife Clare (Liv Tyler) to start a family despite his fears of inadequacy, Noah now finds the mother he’s always kept at a distance just a room away. He soon starts to realize that if he wants to stand up to the problems in his life, he’ll have to stand up to his mother. As heartwarming as it is hilarious, "Smother" is a family film in the truest sense of the term.
I think all of us know a mother like Marilyn Cooper… may in fact be your mother; if so you’ll definitely be able to relate to Smother’s Noah. The mother – son relationship can be a close and beautiful one to a … well, smothering one. Keaton is such a blast to watch and does neurotic characters so well. If you have a problem getting your mother to let go or no someone who does, make sure they watch Smother.
I think it will be a nice movie to watch on a Saturday night. It airs January 3, 2009 at 9:00 pm EST on the Lifetime channel. If you get a chance to watch it let us know what you thought of Smother. Hope to hear from you!
