Recently, I’ve been eating a high protein, lower-carb diet. I’m not doing a “low-carb” diet, just cutting back on the carbs a bit, while amping up the protein. I love lettuce wraps and they’re perfect for not only a low carb lunch, but a low calorie lunch, too.
One way for me to cut down on carbs is to cut down on bread. I love bread. Just a little too much. As I said, I’m not trying to end my love affair with bread… we’ll still be friends.
Instead of bread for sandwiches I’ve been making lettuce wraps. Lettuce wraps for a low carb diet is so easy. Just in case you’ve never made a lettuce wrap, here’s how to make one….
What you’ll need:
- Romaine Lettuce (Big green leaves)
- I used chipped turkey, but you can use tuna salad, hummus, ham, etc.
- Fat Free Mayo (substitute your own condiment or sandwich spread)
- Low Fat Cheese
- Sliced tomatoes
- Tooth Pick
First break a leaf off the lettuce stalk and add a dab of mayo and spread it in the middle.
Then add a little chipped turkey to the lettuce.
Now top it with a piece of cheese and few slices of tomatoes.
Then you get one side of the lettuce and wrap it up. Then put a tooth pick in it to keep it from coming unraveled.
Cut or enjoy as a whole.
If you want to change it up a bit try this slow cooker BBQ chicken lettuce wrap.
