Medical Spas
These are a lot like day spas where people go to get treatment for the whole day, largely in regard to skin care, but they come with expert medical treatment. The most popular treatments are for acne, scars, aging and hair removal. Typical treatments vary from salt glows, where the body is rubbed with a combination of natural oils and salt to exfoliate the skin, to massages, right the way through to more extreme treatment such as Botox. Prices of typical treatments such as facials and body wraps tend to scale between £20 to £70 across the UK. Such spas can be found in almost all cities across the country. Some people like the idea of making a holiday out of medical spa treatment and there are a wide variety of options on the continent with Portugal being a particularly popular medical spa destination.
Some spas are now also offering counseling, such as the Droitwich Spa in Worcestershire which offers drug and alcohol addiction counseling.
Aromatherapy Spas
Utilizing herbal treatments and oils, these spas use holistic therapy and apply essential oils from plants to balance one’s state of mental ,hormonal and emotional balance. Treatments on offer typically include facials, full body massages and manicures. Health benefits of aromatherapy include: stress and anxiety reduction, reduction of exhaustion and improved cognitive function. Oils used include lavender, chamomile, jasmine and grapefruit.
Moroccan Steam Cleansing Ritual Spas
Designed to relax and reinvigorate, these spas are often categorized as highly luxurious. As well as offering the treatments of all spas such as facials, massages and body wrap exfoliation, they also provide cleansing rituals in which you sit in an aromatic steam room to have your skin cleansed, your body relaxed and your mind soothed. Health benefits can include: glowing hair and skin, reduced stress, increased libido and improved cognitive functioning.
Authentic Thai Treatments
These aim to apply holistic treatment; improving body, mind and emotional state. Various treatments are available for hair growth, skin care and the immune system. The hair growth treatment involves a restorative coconut shampoo once unique to Thailand. The immune system boost comes from treatment involving acupressure which is essentially acupuncture without the needles. Such treatment stems from traditional Chinese medicine and aims to re-charge the flow of vital energy or “chi” to certain parts of the body where ailments linger such as migraines or backache. Packages are available for facial treatment, facials and body wraps.
Garden Spas
Despite the name these can be both indoors and outdoors. Indoor spas tend to be situated in luxury countryside homes where you can look out onto beautiful gardens. Outdoor garden spas utilize specifically designed tubs for outdoor use in which you can relax with some hydrotherapy. These spas, with hydrotherapy as their main offering, can relieve the pains associated with arthritis, stress and fibromyalgia and even type 2 diabetes.
