Our son’s school started fall break today. Yes, it is Thursday. He only gets a two day (okay, four-day counting the weekend) fall break. A Facebook friend called it a “fall blink”… because you blink and it’s over.
Just so you know, today there is a 90% chance of rain. It’s a cool, dreary, rainy day. Spending the day indoors doing rainy day fun stuff, like playing Catan and watching family movies are on the agenda.
But I digress.
When I found out at the beginning of the school year that he wouldn’t be getting a full week off for fall break, I knew I didn’t want to go somewhere that required a lot of traveling. I hate spending half the time (or more) on a vacation/break traveling.

Especially in a car.
With a child.
So, we decided we would just stay local. We only live 30-60 minutes away from Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg (and the Great Smoky Mountains), which makes for a great fall break.
And tomorrow, that’s exactly what we will be doing. I love this time of year in our area, so after we go check out the Hollywood Wax Museum (I’m not sure who is more excited about this, my son or ME), we plan on driving up to the Smokies to see the fall colors.
It’s hard for me to be unbiased about this area of Tennessee, but it truly should be a family fun vacation destination for everyone… at least once in your lifetime.
We’ve never been to a wax museum before… I’m sure it’s going to be a family fun thing to do. I know it’s one of the relatively new tourist attractions in Pigeon Forge.
Stay tuned, because I’m sure I’ll take lots of photos and I’ll share them along with our wax museum experience with you, soon.

I love Tennessee but I’ve never been to the wax museum there!
We love visiting the greater Pigeon Forge area….it’s such a gorgeous place!
This sounds fun!
I love Tennessee. I can’t wait to see your trip to the wax museum.
sounds like fun
Such a beautiful scenery picture!! Sounds like a fun time for sure. I love traveling and seeing all the pretty scenery along the way!!!
We love visiting Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge. Being in Georgia, it’s not a far drive and it’s like a cozy little world of its own there!
We were just there last week. We go down a few times a year, and we were HEARTBROKEN that Cades Cove was closed. Stupid government!
Oh, I so hate it was closed when you were visiting! And, I hear ya! 🙂
Looks like a super fun trip! Would love to check it out some day.
I was down there last year but we didn’t make it to the wax museum. I loved Pigeon Forge and want to bring my family there on vacation!
I’ve never been to TN. I went to a wax museum a long time ago, the kids will love it!
Oooh I love wax museums. We didn’t get to make it to this when we were in the area. Maybe next time.
I should plan a trip to Pigeon Forge..never been.
Oh, I’d give anything to live in that area. I love Tennessee. I’m hoping to visit there sometime next year. 🙂
I get creeped out by wax museums. :\
I’ve never been to TN but it sounds like such a beautiful area. Can’t wait to see what you think of the museum never been to one of those either.
Can’t wait to hear what you thought! We don’t get Fall Break here at all so I’m jealous of even the couple of days he gets!
I’ve never been to that area but I’d love to go — I bet it is beautiful in the fall!
We love the Smokys! Can’t wait to read about your trip!
Pigeon Forge is great! Never been to the wax museum, but it sounds like a fun minibreak.
Pigeon Forge is great for people of all ages. They have a little
something for everyone. My son had his fall break last week and
one week seemed like a blink to me, yet alone only a four day
total break.
I think wax museums are super cool! Can’t wait to see what you think of it. As for road trips, not my thing – I much prefer to fly!
Lucky you that you live in close proximity and can do that for a quick getaway. I hope you all had a wonderful time!
I’ve never been to Tennessee but I’ve been to a wax museum and they’re awesome.
