It has been reported that Oscar winning actor Morgan Freeman was hospitalized in serious condition today, August 4, 2008, after the car he was driving careened off a rural highway and rolled several times, authorities said. This according to Reuters.
Morgan Freeman is one of my all time favorite actors. I think he is one of the best actors of our time! He has a presence about him that commands respect.
He has an authoritative voice (the reason he lends his voice to many projects), that I could listen to all day.
Freeman costars in the current blockbuster, Dark Knight, which I have not seen yet, my husband did, and said his acting was what you would expect of him. As well as Wanted with Angelina Jolie.
The most recent movie I saw with Morgan Freeman was The Bucket List, in which he starred along side Jack Nicholson. I loved The Bucket List and Freeman’s character Carter Chambers, a dying cancer patient. One of my favorite quotes was between Edward Cole (Jack Nicholson) and Carter Chambers (Freeman):
Edward Cole: I envy people who have faith, I just can’t get my head around it.
Carter Chambers: Maybe because your head’s in the way.
Another one of my favorite movies of Freeman’s is The Shawshank Redemption. Morgan Freeman starred along side Tim Robbins in this 1994 Oscar nominated Best Picture. Freeman was also nominated as Best Actor for his role of Ellis Boyd ‘Red’ Redding, prison ‘fixer’. If you have never seen The Shawshank Redemption, I highly recommend you do!
The only movie I can remember watching that Freeman plays a bad guy is in Hard Rain, with Christian Slater. I have this thing where I hate to see my favorite actors (who mainly play good guys), play bad guys. Although I still enjoyed Morgan Freeman in Hard Rain, it was hard for me to accept him as a bad guy.
I realize there are so many movies that Morgan Freeman has/is acting in. In fact, I would say he is inarguably one of the hardest working actors out there. So I may do another post soon talking more about Morgan Freeman movies that I have enjoyed watching.
Until then… my thoughts and prayers go out to you Mr. Freeman, for a speedy recovery.
