Decorating a Boy’s Bedroom – A Jungle Room Theme

Decorating a Boy’s Bedroom

decorating a boy's bedroom

I did my son’s room in a jungle/safari theme some time back. I was and still am very pleased with it. He loves it. At the time all I could find that I liked as far as bedding goes, was solid reversible chocolate brown/khaki comforters.

This was okay for awhile, but I’m really wanting a more jungle themed bedding. He has twin beds, so I need two twin-sized comforters. I’m hoping to findย some animal print bedding sets.

I can’t decide if I want the leopard or giraffe print. Both would fit his room. I’m so pleased with the outcome. I decorated the room when he was ten, and now that he will be 13 in three months, I’m not sure if it’s still okay or not. He still seems to like it.

In fact, I know many adults with jungle themed bedrooms. He may get bored with it though at some point, but for now he loves the African/Savannah feel to his room. And I’m loving the jungle room decor!

Decorating a boy’s bedroom was more fun than I thought it would be, by the way.

He especially loves the big chimpanzee mural that we attached to his wall. Long story short… his room used to be a guest bedroom with a Venetian plaster treatment on the walls. So a mural wouldn’t adhere to the wall itself. So we just painted over the walls, and attached the mural to a sheet of dry wall and attached it to his wall. I thought about Cut My Plastic for this project, too.

We custom made a bamboo valance to go over wood blinds for his window treatment.

A tribal mask and salamander are on the corner wall above his bed.

Framed art and another salamander (plus a bamboo stick) adorn the walls above the other twin bed.

Accent pieces that fit your room theme can help tie a room together, like this giraffe.

Then add some accent pieces to bring the jungle theme together and voila… you have a jungle themed boy’s bedroom.

To be honest, it’s one of my favorite rooms in our home.

Now for some reason I can’t get the Marc Cohn song, “Walking in Memphis” out of my head. Especially the verse that says, “…a pretty little thing, waiting for the King, down in the jungle room.”

Would you decorate a bedroom in your home in a jungle or animal theme?

  1. We aren’t really big into animal prints, but I love the way you did your son’s room, it looks fantastic! I could definitely have a room like that and love it!

    • I’m surprised how much I do like animal prints. Because before doing my son’s bedroom, I never used animal prints anywhere in my home. I probably would stick to bedrooms, but I have seen people use animal prints in their living rooms and it looks good. You never know… ๐Ÿ™‚

I really like how you decorated your son’s room. Great job! I would like to do something like that. I like theme rooms. I’m normally not big on animal prints, but if done right, I think I would like to decorate a room using animal print for inspiration.

  3. I really like that room, it’s very unique and cool. My daughter wants to incorporate a zebra theme into her room, but the problem is that she will be sharing with one, possible two adopted sisters, much younger. I’m thinking I could let her have the zebra on her bunk and use accent colors on the other beds.

    • Yeah, she could do zebra bedding on her bed, since it’s black and white… so many other colors would go with it. You could definitely play around with it.

      And congrats on adopting!!!

O.M.G! I love this! My son is 10 and loves animals and going to the zoo. His favorite is chimps, so this would be so perfect! And I could see this growing with him for several years, too! Where did you get the bamboo? And how did you do the window valance? Oh, and is that bamboo around the mural, too?

    • We actually found the bamboo at Hobby Lobby and my husband cut it and I hot-glued it together onto pieces of 2x4s cut to make the valance. Yes, we used bamboo to frame the mural after pasting it onto a sheet of drywood. It looks really good in person. All of his friends love it!

  28. What a cool room, you did an awesome job decorating it! It’s the perfect amount of fun for a tween/teen without being too “Babyish”. I want that leopard print rug for my own house, haha!
