Easy Sausage Gravy Recipe Made in the Instant Pot

I’m from the south. And being from the south, I should be able to make sausage gravy (or any breakfast gravy). Right?

Yep, I should.

But, no, I can’t.

I’ve made gravy quite a lot over the years, but I rarely make it where it’s perfect. Maybe a handful of times has my gravy turned out perfectly. I’m definitely not consistent in my gravy making…, especially breakfast gravy.

Sausage Gravy

And my husband loves breakfast gravy.

I think it’s partly because I’m not really crazy about gravy. My son doesn’t like it either.

That is until now…

I discovered you can make homemade sausage gravy in the instant pot.

Hallelujah.

Not only does my husband love it, but my son and I love it, too.

I made it this past Sunday morning and plan on making it for “breakfast for dinner” soon.

What’s really great about this recipe, other than how delicious it is, is if you use canned biscuits plus the instant pot to make it, it’s easy gravy and biscuits anytime you want it.

Pour the sausage gravy over your homemade or canned biscuits. You can just eat your gravy on the side if you wish, but gravy goes so well with biscuits.

How to Make Thicker Breakfast Gravy

My husband likes a thicker gravy; think Cracker Barrel gravy. When you get to step 6, and if it isn’t thickening like you want, you can do a cornstarch slurry. Just add 1/4 tsp of cornstarch to about 1/4 tsp of water, mix with a fork and pour into your instant pot. Then continue whisking. Add more slurry if you need to.

If you love sausage gravy, you will love this instant pot sausage gravy recipe. It’s so much easier than making it on the stove.

This is a great way to try gravy, especially if you’re like me and have trouble getting it to come out right every time you make it. This instant pot recipe will solve your problem.

I hope you enjoy this biscuit and gravy recipe and make it time and time again. And I think you could replace the pork breakfast sausage with bacon.

Just use the saute function to fry your bacon, then remove the bacon and use the bacon grease to make your gravy. I think it would be a good alternative to sausage gravy. I’m going to try it soon, and I’ll update you when I do.
