Join @DonnaChaffins & Learn More About National Infant Immunization Week Twitter Party 4/30 at 1 pm EST #CDCvax

This important topic about how you can learn more about National Infant Immunization Week has been brought to you through a partnership with TheMotherhood. All opinions are 100% my own and may differ from yours. I will only endorse companies, products and services that I believe, based on my own experiences, are worthy of endorsement.

I’ve written before about how strongly I feel about immunization of infants and children. I truly believe it is one of the best ways of protecting our children.

And I do mean OUR children. Even though I had/have my son vaccinated, I would feel better knowing the children he comes into contact with, have also been vaccinated.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of National Infant Immunization Week (NIIW), an annual observance to highlight the importance of protecting infants from vaccine-preventable diseases and to celebrate the achievements of immunization programs in promoting healthy communities throughout the United States.

The Motherhood is joining The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in sharing how immunizations early in life can help protect children from 14 serious diseases before they turn two years old. We’ll be providing the CDC’s recommended immunization schedules, along with interesting facts and helpful tips.

What: While it can be easy to think of vaccine-preventable diseases – such as measles or whooping cough – as issues of the past, most of these diseases still persist around the world. Just last year, in 2013, 189 people in the U.S. reported having measles, the largest reported outbreak in the U.S. since 1996. As a mom, that’s scary to me.

My son when he was 20 minutes old… and he was and is too important to me to not have him vaccinated. #CDCvax

  1. I’ll definitely be there! As someone who depends on “herd immunity” because I have an active and painful immune system disease, I can’t afford to get sick. I have friends who have a child who was born without much of an immune system and he relies on, and will, for the rest of his life, others to be vaccinated. One go-round with influenza could prove fatal for this baby. I really think this is incredibly important and am so glad you’re taking part!

  2. While I don’t have any kids, I do think immunizations are very important!

  3. I will try to be there! I’m a strong supporter of immunizations as well.

  4. Vaccinating is so important to me. I’ll have to remember to stop in for this party!

  5. Awww what a cute picture! We don’t have any kiddo’s but I know that vaccination is so important!!!

  6. Such an adorable baby–and very important topic!

  7. I think many don’t realize the devastation these diseases can cause, since they haven’t seen them in their lifetime. My older cousin was in leg braces for many years due to polio. It’s no joke.

  8. Looks like a great party with some great hosts 🙂 I think each can make their own decision but still feel that those who don’t get immunizations benefit from those that do…

  9. Infant immunizations are so important. Thanks for sharing. More parents need to immunize. There is too much misinformation out there.

  10. Immunizations are extremely important for many reasons, thanks for sharing!
