One of my early childhood memories was of going grocery shopping with my mom and getting to choose one box of cereal for the week. It’s the only thing I remember my mom letting my siblings and me choose. She didn’t let us choose any other food items and whatever she bought, was what we ate… but that one box of cereal.

It was a big deal to me. And I always, ALWAYS, chose cereal with a prize in the box. Oh my goodness! The excitement I had for that prize, toy, or surprise in the bottom of that cereal box was incredible.

You would have thought it was Christmas every Saturday.

I remember my friends be just as excited. I’m not sure what it was about the cereal that had prizes in the box, but it sure was something we all looked forward to.

I can vividly remember the Monster toys in the General Mills Boo Berry, Count Chocula and Franken Berry cereal boxes! I wish I still had all those prizes today. Unfortunately, over the years with many moves, I’ve lost them. I did ask my Mom if she has ever run across them recently, but she hasn’t.

I know my son would get a kick out of seeing them today.

I was excited to see that General Mills has a Find the 7th Minion in select cereal boxes. Especially excited since we, especially my son, can’t wait to see the new Minion movie.

You can find free Minions in one of the XL or Family sized boxes of…

  1. Honey Nut Cheerios
  2. Cinnamon Toast Crunch
  3. Lucky Charms
  4. Reese’s Puffs
  5. Trix
  6. Cocoa Puffs
  7. Golden Grahams

I think finding the 7th Minion in these specially marked cereals has whet my son’s appetite even more for the Minion movie.

I do know that he was excited to get to the prize in the box of Honey Nut Cheerios. Yes, I had a flashback to my excitement for the prizes in cereal boxes when I was a child. I told my son about the Monster prizes I loved and collected and even found a few photos online to show him what they looked like.

He talked me into letting him open up the Golden Grahams this morning to find his 2nd Minion. I’m sure by the end of the week he will open up the Lucky Charms to find his 3rd Minion. Then I’ll have to go to Walmart to pick up another box or four to find the 7th Minion.

He thought they were cool and we shared a connection through space and time… he understood why I was excited each Saturday morning to get the box of cereal with a prize in the box.

I found the General Mills cereal with the Minions in them in the cereal aisle at Walmart and picked up a family size box of Honey Nut Cheerios, Lucky Charms, and  Golden Grahams. You can find your own free Minions, just look for the 7th Minion ONLY at Walmart!

Do you and/or your kids have a favorite Minion?
