I used to work for a small loan office that was a branch of a bank between 1987 – 1990. One of my job duties was collections. I called our customers (debtors) who were behind on their payments. Not once did I ever get nasty. NEVER. I was kind and respectful, even when I knew they were lying to me.
It wasn’t the way we conducted business. Even if it was, I would never have been able to harass, lie, or be downright mean to people anyway. But boy, have things changed.

I’m so glad to say that I’ve never had to deal with debt collectors…
I have never had to deal with debt, but this information is very good to know.
Thank goodness that we are debt free (aside from our current home mortgage of course) so we don’t have to deal with these types of monsters.
Great info! I had to do collection calls at a past job also.
Great illustration and discussion. Sometimes the debtor is the one who react to much when the debt collector is just asking for payments. tsktsk…
