Staying Safe in the Sun with Banana Boat

I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for Banana Boat. I received product samples and promotional item as a thank you for participating. All opinions regarding staying safe in the sun by using sunscreen are 100% my own.

I cannot believe that for all intents and purposes, our summer ended here for us last week. My son finished his first week of school already. He is officially a 5th grader.

Sigh.

Staying Safe in the Sun

We did have a fun summer. Lots of fun in the sun! From our beach vacation to our days spent at the pool we happily, and lazily (for me) enjoyed the sun. Especially since it has been a rainy summer, we got outside and enjoyed every single sunny day.

I haven’t always used sunscreen. I grew up in a time of “sun worshiping”. You didn’t hear the words… skin cancer.

I had friends who used butter and motor oil on their skin while tanning. Seriously. I think I even used motor oil a time or two. I just never thought about staying safe in the sun.

Crazy. I know.

But as Oprah Winfrey says, “When you know better, you do better.”

Staying Safe with Sunscreen

I am adamant about sunscreen on my son. He has a pale complexion and well, I want to keep it that way. I may still have that mentality that you look healthier with a tan for myself, but for the most important person in my life… I’m fine if he never ever has a tan.  I don’t want him to ever get skin cancer.

Do as I say, not as I do. Oh, Lord, I’ve turned into my Mom.

So I slather the sunscreen on my son. I’m a big fan of Banana Boat sunscreen products.

Banana Boat Sport Performance CoolZone Continuous Spray Sunscreen

I love the Banana Boat Sport Performance CoolZone Continuous Spray for my son. He hates lotion sunscreens.

He is ten and lacks patience. He loves the spray. On a hot day, he really loves the coolness. There’s no need to shake or rub it in. Just hold it 4-6 inches away and spray. It comes in SPF 30 and 50+.

Perfect for athletes or those impatient ten-year-old boys.

Banana Boat Protect & Hydrate #bananaboatbrand

Banana Boat Protect & Hydrate New 2 in 1 Lotion

The Protect & Hydrate lotion is my favorite. As I mentioned above, I’ve spent a lot of time in the sun and tend to have very dry skin. It definitely needs hydrating.

The Protect & Hydrate 2 in 1 has Aloe with Antioxidant Vitamins C & E to maintain 100% of your skin’s natural moisture. Not to mention SPF recommended by the Skin Cancer Foundation to protect against the sun’s harmful rays. It comes in SPF 15, 30, and 50.

Banana Boat Kids Tear-Free Sting-Free Sunscreen

I love this lotion for my son’s face (and mine, too) because sunscreens can actually burn and irritate your eyes, especially when your in the sun and sweating. My son doesn’t complain about his eyes burning, now. It comes in SPF 50.

Banana Boat Sunscreen Baby Natural Reflect

This gentle lotion provides protection from the sun’s harmful rays for the most precious of skins. It comes in SPF 50+. I don’t have a baby anymore, so I’m giving this tear-free sting-free lotion to my niece, I know she’ll appreciate it.

I’m going to tell you what I tell my son, it is so important to apply sunscreen before going out into the sun, apply liberally, apply often.

Even though my son is back in school, I’m still hitting the pool with some of my BFF’s donning our hats, sunglasses, and sunscreen.

So, be sure to use sunscreen on you and your family because it is an important way of staying safe in the sun.
