Bear in mind that a dirty and messy kitchen is not only an eyesore; it’s also prone to germs which can cause health problems to you and your family later on. Your kitchen pantry should be kept clean and in order all the time. So how is this possible? The following are some tips on how you can organize your kitchen pantry:

  • Store items properly. Avoid storing food items on the pantry shelf at floor level. You can use this portion to keep boxes and other non-food items. You can keep items that you often use on shelves that are easily accessible to you. Items that are not really that heavy can be store on the top shelves.
  • Label your shelves. To make things more organized, you can label the shelves so that items will be returned to their proper places after use. Use an adhesive tape or marker to label the shelves such as condiments, fruits, vegetables, pasta, breads, etc. You can also group together food items. For instance, you can store condiments such as salt and pepper together. Other categories would include powdered substances like baking soda and baking powder; sweeteners such as powdered sugar, brown sugar, maple syrup, and honey; canned goods; pasta and noodles; beverages such as coffee, tea, powdered milk and chocolate drink; among others.
  • Follow the rule: “First in, first out.” To prevent items from spoiling, try to use food items that will expire first. Arrange them properly on your pantry shelves so that it will be easy for you to identify. Label them too if necessary.
  • Keep your shelves clean. Make sure you regularly clean up your kitchen pantry. As much as possible, wipe off spills and regularly clean your shelves with a cleaning solution to disinfect them from germs and bacteria. You can even use some glass cleaner to clean up the dirt and filth.  You need to keep the food from spoiling too. You can use food wrap on your pantry to prevent spilled food items from staining. Regularly clean your pantry, refrigerator, and freezer. Remove spoiled and expired food items.

Keeping your kitchen pantry neat and organized is possible by following these simple tips. Keep them clean for you and your family.
