Smokey Eye look

One of the hottest looks these days when it comes to enhancing your eyes is the Smokey Eyes look. This latest fashion trend gives you a dramatic cat eye effect that others will definitely take notice of as soon as you enter the room.

While this look is very popular, it can also be hard for many people to achieve especially those who are not experts when it comes to applying eye shadow and eye liner in the first place.

Here are some helpful tips that will allow you to create your own smokey eyes look which is a fun and fashionable statement that looks great during any season:

The Process

You will want to start out with applying a primer coat across the lids as well as the lower lash line. This will ensure that the eye shadow you apply will go on smoothly. Apply a medium shade of shadow such as a mocha or latte brownish color to the lid only and stop at the crease. Then you will need to apply black eyeliner to the lower lash line.

Adding a taupe shade of eye shadow to the lid will help to further enhance the color. You will want to add this shadow to the lower lash line also. Then apply a lighter shade such as a tan or light brown in a line directly above the crease. You will want to be sure to extend this shadow out so that it curves slightly upward which will help to enhance the cat eyes effect.

Using a pencil or crease brush apply a thin line of darker brown shadow inside of the crease and the outer V area of the eye. This will help to add more dimension to your eyes which is important when trying to achieve the smokey eyes look.

You will then want to darken the outer V area of your eye with a dark gray or black shadow. Extend this color so that it goes slightly outward away from the V area.

Apply more deep brown hues to the brow bone area and blend it in with the other shadow. You will want to use a lighter, light gray or white base tone for the inner corner of the eye. Then apply black liquid liner to both the top and bottom lash lines.

You will want to use a smudge brush or your finger to smudge the eyeliner so that you will achieve a much softer look.

Finally apply your favorite black mascara in order to complete the transformation. For a very dramatic look that is perfect for going out at night with friends or attending special events, add false lashes that will draw even more attention to your eyes.

List Of Products

Some of the products you may want to consider using in order to achieve this look include…

  • MAC Satin Taupe Eye shadow
  • Covergirl Lash Blast Mascara
  • E.l.f. Black Licorice Eye shadow Duo (for black and gray shadow)
  • Jane Eye Zing Browny points (for dark brown shadow)
  • Nars Smudgeproof Eye shadow Base
  • Almay liquid eyeliner in black
  • Almay Intense i-Color Eye shadow smoky-I for Browns (3 different brown shades)

These product recommendations are simply suggestions and sometimes it is best to use a brand that you have used over the years because you already know how the shades will look against your own personal skin tone.

Experiment with different hues and shades until you are able to achieve your perfect smokey eyes look. It is best to apply lighter shades first and only a minimal amount of dark gray or black shadow and blend it in with the other colors so that you do not end up with eyes that are too dark and overpowering.

Have fun!
