Happy Father’s Day To My Dad

PoppyI'm sure you've heard the saying, "Any man can be a father. It takes someone special to be a dad." I know it's so cliche… but it is so true. I can attest to it. My stepdad IS my dad.

From day one, he accepted my brother, sister, and myself as his own. I can't count the sacrifices he made, especially when we were young, so that we could have everything we needed and most of what we wanted. And not once, do I remember him ever complaining about it. I've never known a more hard-working man.  He wanted so much for us, and did all he could do to make it happen.

He shows that same love and sacrifice with his grandkids. I know he spoils cares for Cody as much, if not more, than any grandfather ever could. When he's around Cody, he makes him feel like the world revolves around him. Not sure if that's good or bad… but hey, that's what grandparents are for, right?

I hate that we have distance between us and I can't spend time with you on Father's Day. But know that I am thinking of you.

I may have always called you, Bill. But I've always referred to you as dad. And in my heart you ARE my dad. Thank you for making room in your heart for me.  Thank you for being such a remarkable dad! I love you!

  1. What a sweet post! I have a great step dad now too and it does take quite a man to take on children who aren’t their own biologically and be a great father to them! Happy Father’s Day!

  2. Kathleen – absolutely… it does take a special man to (and women – stepmoms) do that. I’m blessed! 🙂
