Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss and National Read Across America

As a child, Dr. Seuss was one of my favorite authors. And today, I still have him high on my list. Theodor Seuss Geisel had a gift of making reading fun. Kids of all ages enjoy his books. His imagination was nothing short of genius. I found this photo from when Cody was in Kindergarten for Read Across America Day. And the funny thing is, he will be dressing up as the Cat in the Hat this coming Monday, too (he gets extra credit for it).

He really was a happy Cat in the Hat, he just didn’t want his photo taken anymore.

Cody started reading around the age of two, and it was Dr. Seuss’s books he learned to read to… and would listen to me read for hours if it was a Dr. Seuss book.

My favorite Dr. Seuss book is “Fox in Socks” because it is so much fun to read aloud. Even if I do say so myself, I can read this book very fast, and not mess up. I’ve been told it’s quite impressive. 🙂

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss and in celebration of Read Across America Day, I’ll be reading my favorite Dr. Seuss book to my son.

Look, sir. Look, sir. Mr. Knox, sir.
Let's do tricks with bricks and blocks, sir.
Let's do tricks with chicks and clocks, sir...

As an avid reader, I have always encouraged reading and reading early with my son. Books are magical and being able to read is both inspiring and educational. Reading sparks the imagination and I truly believe it helps your brain to grow.

There is much evidence proving that the best thing you can do for a child is to inspire reading at an early age.

Dr. Seuss believed the same thing and I admire his genius in being able to write in a way that makes children love to read. So, make today and every day, Read Across America Day.
