I feel so fortunate to have lived in Knoxville for the last twenty-four-years. We are able to visit Pigeon Forge practically anytime we want. We’ve experienced vacations, weekend getaways, spring breaks, fall breaks, day trips, and staycations, many times over the years in Pigeon Forge.
It’s definitely one of our favorite destinations. And we have created some of my fondest family memories.
Family Memories of Pigeon Forge
There is no bad time to visit Pigeon Forge. We’ve visited in the summer, spring, fall, and winter, and have found so many fun things to do in each season.
If you’re looking for something to do during fall break that is coming up soon, Pigeon Forge in the fall is a MUST-SEE. There are so many things to do where you can appreciate the beautiful fall colors. I highly recommend planning a fall break trip to Pigeon Forge in the fall.
The winter is a special time to visit Pigeon Forge. Between Winterfest, all the Christmas lights and decorations, and Christmas shows, it is definitely a sight to behold. And if you think you can’t go for a hike in the winter, think again… the Smoky Mountains are beautiful when there is snow on the ground.
Spring break is a great time to visit with all the flowers starting to bloom, the seasonal attractions open back up in the spring, and hotel prices are generally lower.
The summer is a good time to visit Pigeon Forge. Everything is open and plenty of things to enjoy both outdoors or indoors when it’s just too hot outside.
There’s something for everyone at Pigeon Forge. Regardless of your age or the ages of family members, everyone will find something to do.
In fact, I’m sure you will find several things everyone will enjoy because the things to do in Pigeon Forge are endless…
Pigeon Forge Attractions
Dollywood
One of the most popular attractions in Pigeon Forge is Dollywood. Dolly Parton’s Dollywood is a family amusement park and family vacation destination. Dollywood Theme Park is home to over 40 rides and attractions.
Daredevil Falls and Thunderhead are my husband and son’s favorites. I’m a big chicken and prefer to keep my feet on the ground. I’d rather check out the shows.
And eat at the delicious Granny Ogle’s Ham ‘n’ Beans, of course. Yum!
Titanic Museum
I’ve always found the Titanic to be fascinating. I’ve watched the movie and documentaries and have read up on this great luxury liner and everything I could about that dreadful day it sank.
Visiting the Titanic Museum was a real treat for me. It’s really interesting learning all about the Titanic and touring the museum gives you a sense of what it would have been like aboard the Titanic that day.
So, we may know that the Titanic was lost and struck an iceberg and sank, but trust me, there is so much you probably didn’t know.
Hollywood Wax Museum
If you haven’t been to the Hollywood Wax Museum before in Pigeon Forge, you really need to make plans to visit. It is so much fun. Since pictures speak a thousand words, check out some of the wax figures and how much fun I had…
WonderWorks
WonderWorks in Pigeon Forge is an upside-down indoor ‘amusement park for the mind’. If you have kids (or not) put WonderWorks at the top of your list of places to visit in Pigeon Forge.
WonderWorks is not only fun but educational. There are a lot of hands-on activities the whole family will enjoy.
I could write pages on all the attractions there are in Pigeon Forge… seriously, so many entertainment options.
Pigeon Forge Outdoor Adventures
Pigeon Forge Parks
Enjoy one of the parks in Pigeon Forge like Patriot Park or go fishing in the Little Pigeon River. Patriot Park is dedicated to the veterans of Sevier County and is located near the Old Mill Restaurant and the walking track runs along the Little Pigeon River.
Many annual events in Pigeon Forge take place at Patriot Park.
Putt-Putt Golf
Almost every visit we make to Pigeon Forge includes a stop at one of the putt-putt golf courses. There’s something about the family-friendly competition, being outdoors, and doing something that the whole family can enjoy… you don’t have to be a golfer to love putt-putt golf. And it’s a fun activity for all ages.
Dining
The Old Mill
Our all-time favorite Pigeon Forge restaurant is the Old Mill Restaurant.
The food is always home-cooked, fresh, and oh so delicious! It really is southern comfort food at its best. I highly recommend trying the pot roast. And the portions are large, trust me, you will have plenty to eat.
Just so you know how much I love the Old Mill Restaurant… I’ve made the 45-minute drive just to go eat there and come home.
Poynor’s Pommes Frites
Poynor’s Pommes Frites is a German restaurant and a truly fun place to eat. The fries. Yes, those fries, are oh so good. Their brats are good and you really need to try the mustards. If you’re looking for something different for lunch, stop by Poynor’s Pommes Frites at The Island in Pigeon Forge.
This is just the tip of the iceberg. They are always adding things to see and do in Pigeon Forge. So even if you’ve visited before, odds are good that you will find new and exciting adventures awaiting you in Pigeon Forge.
Even though there is so much to do in Pigeon Forge it’s also a great place to relax.
