5 Celery Benefits and a Grinch Celery Snack

Merry Grinchmas! Yep, it is almost Christmas time again. So, I thought I make some Grinch-related snacks that are perfect for the holiday season. Not only that, but a healthy treat that kids will love eating. And celery benefits are numerous.

First, let’s get this out of the way… celery is NOT a net-calorie food, as much as I wish it were the case. The body does not burn more calories eating celery than the vegetable actually contains.

However, celery is only 20 calories per rib and is high in fiber, so you will fill fuller and, in the end, cost you fewer calories.

Celery Benefits

Reduces Blood Pressure – Celery is high in fiber, magnesium, and potassium, which help regulate your blood pressure.

Lowers Arthritis Pain – Celery contains antioxidants and polysaccharides that are known to act as anti-inflammatories, especially flavonoid and polyphenol antioxidants.

Cures Bloating & Improves Digestion – Since celery has a diuretic effect, it helps with water retention, relieving bloat and helping with digestion.

Prevent Ulcers – Celery contains a special kind of ethanol extract that can prevent the formation of ulcers. So, if eaten regularly, you can prevent ulcers.

Weight loss – Celery is a low-calorie food rich in vitamins and nutrients. Since it is a high-fiber food, you will get fuller quicker and eat much fewer calories on this low-calorie food.

Celery benefits are many and can help in the prevention of many diseases and conditions and a great vegetable to add things to like tuna salad, turkey, peanut butter, or guacamole. Like Grinch celery appetizers or snacks.

Speaking of snacks, let’s get back to the Grinch Celery.

They’re easy to make, so kids can make them or help you make them, and they will have fun making them.

Grinch Celery

What You Need

  • Celery
  • Guacamole (homemade or store-bought) – I used store-bought for these since I needed them done quickly, but I would typically make my own homemade guacamole to use when I’m not making Grinch celery, but just the guac and celery (recipe below).
  • Yellow Candy Balls
  • Black Decorating Gel
  • Black Food Writer Pen

  1. Cut celery into 2-3 inch pieces. Save some of the celery leaves for the hair.
  2. Spread the guacamole on each piece of celery and insert a celery leaf on the top.
  3. With the black food writer pen, draw eyeballs on the yellow candy and place 2 eyes on each piece of celery.
  4. Then, with the black decorating gel, draw on eyebrows, a nose, and a mouth.
  5. Enjoy this fun, healthy snack!

Guacamole Recipe

  • 4 avocados
  • 1/2 cup diced onion
  • 3 Roma tomatoes (seeded and diced)
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped cilantro
  • 1 tsp minced garlic
  • 1/2 – 1 jalapeno (diced)
  • 1 fresh lime (juiced)
  • Tabasco Sauce (like Frank’s Hot sauce) 3-4 dashes or to taste
  • Salt & pepper to taste

  1. Cut ripened avocados in half and remove the pit.
  2. Scoop out the flesh and coarsely chop it. Place in a large bowl and mash with a fork. If you like yours more chunky, just slightly mash it.
  3. Add the diced onion, tomatoes, cilantro, garlic, and diced jalapenos and toss them together with the avocados, blending well. You can omit the peppers or just add a little if you like your guacamole mild, add the lime juice, Tabasco sauce, salt, and pepper to taste.
  4. Chill until serving. If not serving right away, place saran wrap directly against the guacamole so that it does not oxidize and turn brown. Serve with tortilla chips.

I make these using peanut butter too. I haven’t tried hummus, but hummus would be perfect as well.

Have fun making The Grinch snacks, and enjoy watching The Grinch at the movies! And now that you know the celery benefits, you can make The Grinch appetizers or snacks sans The Grinch any time of the year, not just Christmas. But since I’m a huge Dr. Seuss fan and love How the Grinch Stole Christmas, I’ll make this a lot this holiday season.
