American Idol Top 3… from best to worst

Who will win American Idol 2009?  I’ve already said in my first post of this season that it will be Adam Lambert.  I still stand behind my prediction.

Tonight’s Season 8 American Idol has the three finalists singing two songs – first a judge’s choice and then their own. 

Danny Gokey is up first and he gets Paula Abdul, who chose Dance Little Sister by Terrence Trent Darby.  I personally didn’t like it.  I like Terrence Trent Darby but don’t necessarily think it was the best choice for Danny.  He did a good job… just not his best performance.  However, Randy loved it, Kara didn’t like his dancing, Paula loved him of course.  Simon agreed with Kara on the dancing and that he didn’t like the "toy" saxophone solo.    So I didn’t agree with any of the judges.

The second to perform was Kris Allen who had judges Randy and Kara to select his song choice, Apologize by One Republic.  I love this song and was pleased with Kris’ performance.  He did an excellent job playing the piano and singing.  Randy says "nice."  Kara said it was a competent performance but he didn’t make it his own.  Paula said he hit a bum note that was loud.  At this point I feel like I’ve been listening to totally different performance.  Simon says Kara was a cop out… she chose the song so she should have changed the arrangement herself.

The last to sing the judges choice is Adam Lambert who gets judge Simon Cowell’s song choice, One by U2.  Randy and Kara liked him.  He did his own version.  Paula says, "One" brilliant song, "One" brilliant performance and "One" American Idol.  Simon said, a brilliant song choice.  He also said that if he wasn’t in the final two after tomorrow night it would be the biggest upset in the history of  American Idol.

From best to worst for the judge’s choice:

  • Adam Lambert
  • Kris Allen
  • Danny Gokey

Then the three finalists sing a song of their own choice.  Danny sings You Are So Beautiful by Joe Cocker.  He did his own arrangement and it’s nice.  I’m not loving him tonight – I don’t think it was his best but Danny does have a beautiful voice.  Kara told him that "everything he didn’t do for her in the first song… he did in this one."  All the judges liked it. 

Kris sings Heartless by Kanye West.  Okay, I really, really, really, had my doubts about this but WOW, he did a fantastic job.  Randy says, that it was better than the original.  Perfect!  Simons says he redeemed himself.  Based on his performance of this song – he proved he belonged in the final three.  He took an enormous risk, and it paid off.

Adam sings Crying by Aerosmith and he rocked it as usual.  Randy says he is one of the best to ever stand on this stage.  Kara says "we’ll see you at the final."  Paula says Steven Tyler would love it.  Simon says people should vote for him because he has the talent. 

My best to worst for the finalists choice:

  • Adam Lambert
  • Kris Allen
  • Danny Gokey

I actually think it was a tie between Adam and Kris though.  Kris really did an amazing version of Heartless.  And although I thought it would be Adam and Danny in the final two all season – I think that based on tonight’s performance, it should be Adam and Kris.

Who do you think was the best?  Worst?  Tune in tomorrow night on Fox at 9:00 pm EST for the result show and see if I’m right… or wrong.

  1. Gotta disagree with ya a little. In my opinion you can’t (or shouldn’t) base a vote on that night’s performance only. Adam rocked it, but I thought the Aerosmith song wasn’t that great, more so to the fault of the backup singers and whoever didn’t adjust the gains on their mics. They completely were killing the song and didn’t harmonize with Adam at all at the beginning. Listen to it again if you don’t know what I’m talking about. Anyway, Kris did well, but it doesn’t put him ahead of Danny. I think Danny did a great job on the second song and has been consistently better than Kris throughout the whole comp. Props to Kris though for making a shitty Kanye song decent. So it still should be Adam – Danny then Kris. I have spoken…….

  3. @Steven: I had to DVR the show and watch it a little later last night so I did rush through it. You’re right about Adam’s performance. The backup singer screaming needed to be toned down a notch, or five. 🙂

    As for my order – I stand by it. I haven’t been too crazy about Danny’s performances over the last few weeks. I love Danny, don’t get me wrong… I’m digging Kris more though.

  4. I know this is an older post, but I met Adam Lambert at a radio show event last year, and he was amazing! He sang a few acoustic songs and had photos with everyone. He was so cool! I honestly had NO CLUE who he was until I met him as I never watch reality shows. What a talent!
