Growing older is inevitable. No amount of miracle creams, injections, or surgeries can change the fact that our bodies and minds will age. It seems as though there are some things about the aging process that nobody bothers to share with you, because, well…. you need to experience it on your own.

Here are 7 Things Nobody Tells You About Aging

You Will Become Your Parents

One day, you will be doing your thing and suddenly, your mother or father’s voice will erupt from your mouth. Remember when you were a teenager and your parents told you something that caused you to roll your eyes? Then you would wonder how you ended up with such stupid parents? Yeah, your teenagers will be doing the same thing when you speak and you will be the stupid parent. What goes around comes around.

You Will Become That Cranky Old Person

When you were younger you probably giggled at the old man down the street yelling “You kids get off my lawn!” but guess what — now YOU are the cranky old man yelling “You kids get off my lawn!” Grass seed is expensive and Karma has a sense of humor.

You Will Wonder Who is In Your Mirror

If it hasn’t happened yet, it will. You will look in your mirror one day and wonder who the heck is looking back at you. Is it your mother or father? Is that some old person who was trapped in the glass by a curse and you slept through it? No — that’s you! Gone is the youthful, tight-skinned, unwrinkled teen who used to stare back at you.

Your Body Will Make Noises You Never Expected

Getting in and out of bed can be a symphony of creaks and groans — and it’s not the bed. Your body as it ages will make noises you never expected. Whether it’s passing gas from one end or the other, cracking, creaking, groaning, moaning, and much more — those noises will become your reality. You can’t help it. It hurts more these days to get up and down!

You Won’t Care As Much About Those Noises

Happy Elderly Woman

At one time you may have been horrified at the noises your body could make. Once you get older, you just won’t care. Fart in the middle of the grocery store? Eh, who cares.

You Will Forget That You Are Not As Young as You Used to Be

As you get older, you will forget that you are getting older. You will forget you are not as young as you used to be. You will try to do things your body can’t handle anymore, and your body will remind you. You will pay for your forgetfulness for days.

You Really Won’t Mind Getting Older

All in all, nobody tells you as you age that you really won’t mind it that much. The comfort of knowing that you are growing older and appreciating the slower pace of life will far outweigh any horror your feel at the aging process. It’s not so bad, really.

Plus when you get old, you really don’t care what anyone thinks… maybe because you can’t see the looks on their faces or hear what they’re saying about you.

Aging does have some perks. Compared to the alternative… aging ain’t so bad. Here’s to aging!

Yeah, aging is a funny process for sure. I make noices that I didn’t know humans could make. Even getting out of bed, requires serious planning. I used to be able to stay up all night, party with my college friends, and dance the night away. Now, if I am up past 10:00PM I must be in the ER.

  10. Sandra Watts says:

I gotta say as a 47 year old woman, aging really sucks! Aging in body but my mind is still young.

Very true – and one of the things that someone should say is to take as many naps as you can as a kid because as an adult as you age – you want a nap in the middle of the afternoon but if you are still working (I’m 51) you can’t just stop your job and take a nap….lol….and the noises…yeah…who knew drinking a glass of grape juice could make you burp

  12. Yep, I’ve already developed traits like my mom and I’m not looking forward to my body making even making more creaking noises. I do hope to never be that cranky old woman though.

  24. Liz Mays says:

Last summer I tried to jump off a ledge onto the grass and oh my gosh, that was a wake-up call. I was expecting to spring right back up into a standing position but my knees stayed bent and it took work to get up!

  25. Marcie W. says:
