Moms: The Most Important Role Models

I am thrilled to take part in the Got Milk? Role Modeling Blog Tour. Because today, more than ever, our kids need good role models.

I didn’t grow up thinking TV stars or singers were to be looked up to or admired. I never was awe-struck over celebrities. I did admire many real-life women, like, Mother Teresa, Rosa Parks and Helen Keller, to name a few.

But the most important role model in my life was and still is – my Mom. I learned from her the importance of being honest and to always be true to myself. I learned from her the importance of giving – you’ve heard the phrase “they’d give the shirt off their back”? Well, this phrase came about, I’m sure, because of my Mother.

She is the best role model, because she not only told me or taught me important life lessons, but because she LIVES them. It is her actions.  Actions ARE louder than words.

It wasn’t always easy for my Mom. She made many sacrifices for her children. But not once have I ever felt like she regretted anything she may have given up or done without for us. I have the utmost respect for her. And strive every day to be half the mom to my son as she is to me.

Which brings me to… me. It's still kind of odd for me to think of myself as a role model. But I am. I have a son. I know that the mother/son dynamic is different than the mother/daughter dynamic. Will my son look up to me as a role model? I don’t know. But I am working hard to be the best role model I can be.

I’m raising him to be a good person. How to be respectful of others. I want him to be trustworthy and a good friend.  He is definitely on the right track, because he has such a big heart for a little boy.

I try to eat a healthy nutritious diet so he can learn by my example. Luckily, he loves milk. Until last year, the only beverages he ever drank were milk and water.  He does drink some juices now. But milk is his go to drink of choice.

Which is why I love the Milk Mustache Campaign on Facebook. They understand the important role moms play in determining the type of people our children turn out to be as adults. The National Milk Mustache Got Milk campaign is now providing the resources and encouragement to help moms out. The new interactive Milk Mustache Facebook page features a customizable ePostcard app that allows you to send a personal greeting to someone you know. You’ll also find many great recipes that include milk, so go check it out. While you’re there, “Like” it.

We would love to hear your role model stories, so please share them with us!

I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of the National Milk Mustache got milk? Campaign and received a promotional item to thank me for taking the time to participate.
