It’s getting more and more difficult for me to find things I’m comfortable with my son watching and reading. He’s ten-years-old and very smart. So he doesn’t want to watch (or read) things that are for younger kids. The things that would fit his age (mental age), or just too mature.

It’s a battle. Really, some days are a battle.

During the week this isn’t too much of an issue, but on weekends or when there’s no school, and I’m working, well, let’s just say… we butt heads.

What I don’t understand is how a child with his intellect can have the same dang conversation with me time and time again.

Cody: “Mom, can I watch such in such (okay, he really doesn’t say “such in such”)?

Me: “No, hon, you know it’s not appropriate.”

Cody: “So and So’s Mom let’s him (nope he doesn’t actually say, “So and So’s).”

Me: “You’re not So and So’s son, you’re mine, and I say, ‘No’!

It goes on for a few more minutes with him sometimes begging. It never works. Yet, he still does it. Maybe he thinks he will eventually break me.

Wish on young man, wish on.

He’s always worse on days I have deadlines to meet, too.

Most of Christmas break was fine, because we were traveling or he was building several of the LEGO® Star Wars sets he received for his birthday and Christmas. He is a LEGO® building fiend. I just can’t keep buying LEGO® sets. Especially since he has expensive taste in LEGO® Star Wars sets.

I’ve been searching for some YouTube channels that he can watch on his iPad, something else he loves doing, when I discovered LEGO® has an official channel on YouTube. Not only that, but you can create your own playlist. This way, Cody can watch the playlist I create and I know it’s safe and will give me some peace of mind, knowing he’s watching something appropriate and Mom (“me”) approved.

It’s super easy to create your own LEGO® YouTube playlist. Check out the infographic below with step by step directions:

My playlist includes a lot of Star Wars LEGO® shorts. Since it’s my son’s favorite. They have over 500 videos to choose from and adding more daily. Which is great, because you can’t get enough LEGO® Star Wars, or so my son tells me.

LEGO Star Wars YouTube Channel

I like that the playlist is a special way for parents to create something with their child(ren) It’s more personal. By letting your child help you, I think they will enjoy watching the shorts even more, knowing they had input. And you won’t worry about what they’re watching.

If you’re looking for videos for kids, the LEGO® channel on YouTube is the way to go.

Here’s my LEGO® YouTube Playlist: LEGO Playlist

If you need something for your child(ren) to watch while you work and/or meet a deadline and you want to feel okay about it… make your own playlist at YouTube.com/LEGO.

Thank you to LEGO and Technorati for being sponsors. I was selected for this opportunity as a member of Clever Girls Collective. All opinions expressed here are my own.
