Hot Spiced Tea Perfect for the Holidays

It’s starting to feel a bit chilly in the mornings here, now. In fact, we have a chance of our first frost of the season this coming Sunday. Don’t get me wrong, I love fall and cooler temperatures, but I don’t like cold. I’m more of a 50s for a low and 70s for a high kind of a gal. But I love hot spiced tea any day of the year.

There are so many health benefits to drinking tea, too.

When I woke up this morning I had a bit of a scratchy throat and felt the chill in the air and knew I needed a cup of hot spiced tea… to soothe my throat and warm me up. Here’s an easy, delicious hot spiced tea recipe…

Hot Spiced Tea

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/5 cup water
  • 1 bag of my favorite tea
  • A couple of peels of an orange/tangerine (I used a Cutie)
  • 2 or 3 cloves
  • A dash of cinnamon
  • Star anise
  • Honey

Directions:

  1. Bring the water to a boil then reduce heat to low.
  2. Add the dash of cinnamon, orange peels and the cloves. If you like it stronger, use your fingertips to break down the tips of the cloves then add to water.
  3. Cover pan and allow to simmer for 5 minutes. A little longer if you prefer the spices to really kick in.
  4. Turn off heat and add the tea bag and if you wish a whole star anise. Allow the tea to steep for at least a couple of minutes or until your desired preference.
  5. Pour through a strainer into your mug and sweeten with honey.
