Happy Birthday… Blog by Donna

Four years ago today, I wrote my first blog post on Blog by Donna. I
remember how excited I was to start blogging. I had no idea what I was
doing. I was clueless. It didn't stop me. I was writing. I was sharing
tips, ideas, and my opinions for others to read. Except no one was
reading. But to paraphrase a quote from "Field of Dreams", "If you build
it, they will come"…

And you did.

It took time. I wrote a lot. I learned a lot. And I wrote some more. I discovered things about myself. I fell in love with blogging. Over the last four years my blog has become my work, my business… my passion. And I'm not out gas money or lunch money, as well as not having to get all dressed up every day (unless I want to).

Something that has changed for me over the last four years is that I referred to myself as a "Mommy" blogger 4 years ago. Today, I say I am a mom who blogs. But I consider myself a business owner. And as anyone who blogs will tell you, it's a lot of hard work, as well as oftentimes, very time demanding.

When I do reviews, for example, I have to watch, try, test, etc., whatever the product is I'm reviewing. Take pictures, draft, and finally write up my reveiw. I also have time constraints. Most reviews I do, I try to have them published between 4 to 7 days after I've received said product. Unless, the product requires more time.

One of the things I struggled with when I started, was my blog's niche. I really didn't have one. Nor did I want one. My blog's name lent for me to blog about, well… anything I wanted to blog about. I also heard many times that I would fail if I didn't have a niche.

You see though, I have such an eclectic personality, with a myriad of interests — so locking myself into one niche, made me feel, kind of claustrophobic. If that makes sense?

But I digress. And thanks for bearing with me as I ramble on here.

The reason for this post is to thank YOU, my readers! Because a blog without readers… is a diary. 🙂 I hope you stick with me for another 4 years! From the bottom of my heart — THANK YOU!
