Breastfeeding Part 3

I feel like I left my last blog on breastfeeding just hanging out there.  I did not want anyone thinking that I was suffering and sacrificing myself to do whatever it took to breastfeed my son.  I did do everything in my power to make it possible, but I need to add that before leaving the hospital with my son I gave myself two weeks.

I decided that I would give it my best efforts for two complete weeks if at the end of that time I was still having difficulty (nipples still cracked and bleeding, etc.) I would give it up.  I was only going to try for two or three more days if my son kept losing weight because I was not about to let him starve.

Now for the good news!  Three days after buying the electric breast pump things could not have been any better.  My nipples were all healed and good as new, and I loved the whole breastfeeding experience.  There is no other feeling like it in the world!  It is the best bonding experience you could ever share with your baby.

I breastfed my son until 10 days shy of his 1st birthday.  To be honest, the only reason I quit then, was that my son was ready.  He weaned himself from the breast.  He just wasn’t interested anymore.  I will admit that I was a bit sad and it took me a couple of days to come to terms with the fact that my baby was growing up and ready to move on.
I would love to hear your comments about breastfeeding!  Hope to hear from you!  Enjoy life!!!
