Back to School with Boys & Girls Club

Boys & Girls Club

It’s official, summer is over! My son started back to school two days ago. And I have no idea where the summer went. The only thing right now that I’m looking forward to is the temps cooling down. It has been a HOT summer. But ready or not, it’s back to getting up early, homework, and a routine.

We finished getting his back to school supplies and clothes and shoes over the weekend.

My son was ready to start back, though I’m another story. He missed his friends. And I think he actually missed the routine. We still don’t have a good bedtime routine started back, because he is in tech week this week for the play opening this Friday night at our local Children’s Theatre.

We’ll work on it next week. I do have a good feeling about this school year. I think it just may be his best year, yet!

Another thing I’ve got a good feeling about is the Boys & Girls Club! They are the most well-known after school program for our youth, providing kids a safe and educational environment, and building character and leadership skills. They serve nearly 4 million kids yearly. Wow!

Tools for success

Not every child is as fortunate as my son, so I was thrilled to hear that Disney is partnering with Boys & Girls Club to launch the Tools for Back to School initiative. It features a pop-quiz style game, where supplies are donated to BGCA for every correct answer you score. Now if that isn’t a reason to play, I don’t know what is!

I played and school supplies were donated to a club kid. I promise it’s a quiz you’ll be glad you took! It won’t cost you a penny. My son and I talked about how some kids don’t have school supplies to start school with, and he wanted to take the quiz, too. He felt so good knowing that he was responsible for school supplies being donated because of him.

JCP round up your purchase

Boys & Girls Club also partnered with JCPenney for the entire month of August to encourage all of us back-to-school shoppers to round up our purchases at the register and donate it to the Boys & Girls Club. So if your purchase total comes to 29.75, tell them to round it up… you’ll be donating .25. That easy! JCP has raised over $700,000 so far.

BGCA offers different educational content and tip sheets for parents to download and utilize. You can find them on the left hand side of the BGCA site under the ‘Get Ready’ header. There’s some great time management tips that I will definitely be incorporating this school year.

Disclosure: I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of Boys and Girls Club. I received a promotional item to thank me for taking the time to participate.
