American Idol Top 5 Best to Worst

Tonight’s Season 8 American Idol theme is standards from the ‘Rat Pack’ era.  The Rat Pack featured Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis, Jr., Peter Lawford and Joey Bishop, who appeared together on stage and in films in the early-1960s.

The mentor for the five remaining Idol contestants was Jamie Foxx.  Foxx made the statement that "[I] Say what’s exactly on my mind."  So what he said about Miley Cyrus was what was on his mind?!  But I digress…

I have to say that I was very impressed by all five remaining American Idol contestants.  They proved they should be in the final five.  Albeit difficult, here is my best to worst:

Adam Lambert – sang Feeling Good.  And it felt good listening to him.  I love, love, love Adam Lambert!  He rocked a big band tune and made it authentic.  Simon says he "made the best entrance down the stairs on the stage this season."  In my opinion no one can come close to Adam vocally.

Danny Gokey – sang Come Rain or Shine by Billie Holiday.  He was awesome tonight!  The best he’s been since the very beginning of the competition.  All the judges agree that Danny was incredible.

Matt Giraud – sang My Funny Valentine.  Very nice job by Matt.  I personally think it was one of his best performances.  Randy didn’t care for it and Simon totally disagreed with Randy.  I’m getting scared because Simon and I seem to agree more than we disagree.

Allison Iraheta – who celebrated her seventeenth birthday yesterday sang Someone To Watch Over Me.  I just love Allison.  And am continually impressed by the voice that comes from her young throat.  Randy absolutely loved it.  I think she and Matt were tied tonight.

Kris Allen – sang The Way You Look Tonight.  The song was originally sung by John "Lucky" Garnett.  With Frank Sinatra, Elton John and Rod Stewart also singing their renditions.  I like Kris and thought he did a good job.  I don’t agree with Randy that it was his best though.  Everyone loved him.  But Simon didn’t think he was quite as good as the other judges.  And once again I agree with Simon.

As for who goes home tomorrow night?  Based on tonight’s performances I’d say Kris.  I however, will not be a bit surprised if it isn’t Allison.  The females this year have not faired well.

Who was your favorite tonight?  Watch American Idol with me tomorrow night on Fox at 9:00 pm EST and see how right… or wrong I am.  You can also check out AmericanIdol.com to watch tonight’s performances and download their songs on iTunes.
