5 Ways to Spice up Hot Chocolate

5 ways to spice up hot cocoa

Now that the weather is getting to be colder, I love drinking hot beverages such as coffee, hot cider, and ESPECIALLY hot chocolate!

Hot chocolate has always been one of my favorite drinks for the winter time, I mean who doesn’t love a chocolate filled drink that keeps you warm and toasty? However, I am one that likes to switch things up and not drink the same thing all of the time, I mean I can get bored with the same thing over and over and over.

This is why I am going to be sharing with you a few ways that I like to spice up my Hot Chocolate and tweak it to my own preference! Here are 5 ways to spice up hot chocolate:

peppermint hot cocoa

Peppermint: I don’t think anything screams winter quite like the smell and taste of peppermint. I personally love adding peppermint to my hot chocolate because I just think that the flavor of the mint and the chocolate mixed together is to die for.

There are a couple ways that you can achieve this flavor, you could simply buy some peppermint extract and put a bit of that in your hot chocolate, or the much simpler way is to just get a peppermint and drop it into the bottom of your cup and allow the peppermint to soak in. You will absolutely love it!

Add pumpkin pie spice to hot chocolate

Pumpkin Pie Spice: I don’t know about you, but my family cannot get through the holidays without some good old fashioned pumpkin pie, which is why I like to bring that delicious flavor to my hot chocolate! Just simply get yourself a little bit of pumpkin pie spice and mix that in with you hot chocolate, top it off with some whipped cream and you have yourself a delicious pumpkin pie drink.

Spice up hot cocoa with cinnamon

Cinnamon: I am a cinnamon junkie! I pretty much love anything cinnamon flavor, cinnamon-scented anything. So naturally, I would love it in my hot chocolate. It just gives your normal, plain hot chocolate a bit of spice and flavor that really kicks it up a notch. Definitely a favorite and it’s so simple to just throw into your cocoa.

marshmallow fluff and peanut butter

Marshmallow Fluff and Peanut Butter: This one is pretty interesting if I do say so myself, adding marshmallow fluff and peanut butter. I know it sounds a bit strange, but I promise it’s delicious.

It’s common to add marshmallows to your hot chocolate, so just throw a bit of peanut butter in there as well and I promise you when all of the flavors meld together you will have one sweet, delicious treat!

White chocolate in hot cocoa

White Chocolate: Starbucks has a white chocolate hot chocolate which is where I initially tried this, it switched up the game for me. I would highly recommend checking this out because although I love my typical milk chocolate cocoa, this one has a completely original and delicious flavor.

Spicy hot chocolate perfect for th holidays

These are just a few of my favorite hot cocoa combinations that just switch things up a bit when I get bored with a plain hot chocolate. If hot chocolate is something you love during the holidays, but you just want to add a bit of extra flavor or spice to, I hope you’ll try these. Oh, and whipped cream on top of your hot cocoa is a must no matter what you add to it.
