5 Ways To Speed Up Your Morning Routine

Guest Post

Early morning starts often involve rushing around at top speed trying to get ready and out of the house without being late for school, college or work. Wouldn’t it be great to start the day relaxed and calm, without turning up to your destination looking disheveled and stressed out? Here are five essential tips to get you going in the morning.

Prep The Night Before

Whilst it can seem like a big effort to start thinking about the next day the night before, it can actually save you a lot of time and stress in the morning. For starters, you could prepare the outfit you’re going to wear the night before. A lot of time can be lost in the morning as you dither between different outfits, but making that firm and final decision the night before will get you started on track.

If you take lunch out with you, then you could also consider preparing this the night before and storing it in the fridge. Again, you’ll save yourself a hefty chunk of time, not to mention a few extra quid a day!

If you have an important meeting to go to, or need certain documents, then get everything ready and leave it by the front door so you don’t forget it. Sort through your bag or briefcase to make sure everything you need in the morning is already in its place.

Plan Tasks According To The Clock

Most people don’t have limitless time to get up and out in the morning, so what little precious time you do have, should be spent following a strict schedule. Know what you need to do and when you need to do it by. Keep an eye on your clock and don’t allow yourself to go over the time allotted. A nifty way to make sure you are keeping on track is to play some music which you have timed, so you’ll know that after one track you should have finished one task, the next track another task should be ticked off, etc.

Prioritize What’s Important

Getting up and out in the morning should only really involve getting showered, dressed, breakfast and then out the door. These should be your priorities and anything else should be left on the back burner. For example, if you turn your phone on first thing in the morning and find a barrage of text messages from friends, save replying to them until later in the day when you’ve got the time. Don’t be tempted to turn your computer on either to check any emails, as this will only slow you down. It might also be wise to avoid turning the TV on in the morning as this could easily distract you and before you know it you’re rushing out of the door in a whirlwind of stress.

Get Yourself A Coffee Maker

If part of your routine involves stopping off at the local cafe on the way to work for a quick caffeine fix and a croissant, then consider how much time you are wasting standing in a queue – as well as the cost, which over a period of time can easily mount up. Instead, consider getting yourself a coffee machine, which you can install and set up to provide you with coffee as you eat your breakfast at home. You’ll save valuable time and money in the long term.

Simplify Not Beautify

You could easily save some time in the morning by altering some of the things you do as part of your morning routine. For example, if you wash your hair every day, and then blow-dry or straighten it afterwards, consider if you could let it dry naturally, or wash it every other day.  Keep all your toiletries and cosmetics in one place so you’re not dashing around trying to grab different items.

Ask yourself if there are any elements of your beauty routine that you could cut out. For example, instead of putting a full face of make-up on, could you just put on eyeliner and mascara? Dual-purpose products are also a great investment such as tinted moisturizers, BB creams, and cheek and lip tints If you’re a man who shaves, consider doing it the night before rather than in the morning to save yourself ten minutes.
